چکیده

Compensatory hypertrophy of the kidney in albino rats becomes less as age advances. There is a rapid decrease from 5 days to 60 days of age and then a slow diminution throughout adult life.

Endothelial dysfunction promotes the transition from compensatory renal hypertrophy to kidney injury after unilateral nephrectomy in mice.

Loss of functional nephrons associated with chronic kidney disease induces glomerular hyperfiltration and compensatory renal hypertrophy. We hypothesized that the endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) [soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC)] protein kinase G (PKG) pathway plays an important role in compensatory renal hypertrophy after unilateral nephrectomy. Analysis of mice subjected to unilateral...

Endothelin mediates phospholipase C stimulation in the proximal tubule during initiation of compensatory renal growth in adult rats.

AIM Mechanisms that initiate compensatory renal growth following unilateral nephrectomy are incompletely understood. An early event following unilateral nephrectomy is the activation of phospholipase C in the apical membrane of the proximal tubule, mediated by an unknown agonist. We tested the hypothesis that endothelin is responsible for the stimulation of phospholipase C in rat proximal tubul...

Nitric oxide in serum and renal tissue during compensatory renal hypertrophy in rats.

Nitric oxide (NO) level in serum and renal tissue has been examined in 15 male Wistar rats, body weight 200-250 g, 7 days after unilateral nephrectomy. All rats were ether-anaesthetized and the kidneys were removed by dorsolateral approach. NO concentration in serum and renal tissue was determined by classic colorimetric Griess reaction. Conversion of NO(3)(2-) into NO(2)(2-) was done with elem...

Macromolecular Metabolism in Compensatory Renal Hypertrophy

1. The initial biochemical changes of compensatory hypertrophy occur well within 1 hour of unilateral nephrectomy and perhaps within the first few minutes.2. The initial increment in rRNA is from decreased metabolism rather than from increased synthesis.3. Changes in the processing of mRNA precursors are probably also important.4. Compensatory hypertrophy is regulated by a humoral stimulus or s...

Angiotensin converting enzyme activity in compensatory renal hypertrophy.

Serum and tissue (kidney's) angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) activity has been examined in Wistar rats (10 males and 10 females), seven days after unilateral nephrectomy. Renal hypertrophy was determined by measurement of kidney absolute mass. Serum and tissue ACE activity was determined by spectrophotometric method using hippuryl-l-histidyl-l-leucine (Hip-His-Leu) as a substrate. The ACE se...
